Welcome to the new ASAPbio website! See what’s on the roadmap for 2025.
Major activities
1. Support culture change through community programs and outreach
ASAPbio completed the initiatives below to raise awareness of preprints across diverse communities:
- Completed a fourth cohort of the Fellows program, with 37 fellows (18 from South America, Asia, and Africa) completing 5 projects
- Launched the Local Hubs program, supporting in-person events run by community members in Lisbon (Portugal), São Paulo (Brazil) and Pretoria (South Africa).
- Hosted 3 workshops for Indian researchers in partnership with India Biosciences
2. Promote constructive preprint review
ASAPbio promoted adoption of preprint review via activities involving different stakeholders:
- Continued the crowd preprint review framework and completed a third cycle of activities with 4 Fellow-led crowds and 36 public preprint reviews posted
- Collaborated with Europe PMC to host a workshop on Supporting interoperability of preprint peer review metadata
- Disseminated a meeting report and call to action from Recognizing Preprint Peer Review
- Held events at the Protein Society and Cell Bio conferences to promote conversations about preprint review
3. Expand the usage of preprints to share science earlier
ASAPbio undertook projects to encourage the use of preprints to share work beyond the journal article:
- Posted a preprint in progress, authored by ASAPbio Fellows, about categorizing preprints in progress
- Announced the winners of a competition to showcase the use of preprints to share negative results.
In addition to these activities, we engaged in advocacy to support the US federal public access & open science policy, the “no pay” model, and community engagement with cOAlition S.
