What is the Fellows program?

The Fellows program is a free training and networking initiative that we first ran in 2020.

Fellows receive training in the history, current landscape and future of preprints, how to communicate effectively and how to be a preprint advocate. You will also engage with projects aligned to the ASAPbio strategic direction and deliver a local talk, establishing you as a preprint expert!

Why should you join the Fellows?

  • Learn more about preprints and how they can benefit your research
  • Connect with others in the research community and beyond
  • Gain confidence to drive conversations about preprints; including creating and delivering a preprint related talk
  • Contribute to an ASAPbio initiative or develop your own preprint project
  • It’s fun! You’ll meet others interested in preprints and learn more about publishing, peer review & open science
"The ASAPbio Fellows program was a life-changing experience."

“It has definitely made a significant mark on my open science advocacy journey. I will be forever grateful for the ASAPbio team, namely Jonny Coates, for their tremendous effort and support during the program. I hope my journey with ASAPbio doesn’t stop by the end of the program but extends to a lifelong partnership.”

"The ASAPbio Fellows Program has something for everyone."

“As a graduate student and early career researcher who was somewhat new to preprints, publishing, and peer review, I found the program helpful in creating a space to network with others who were interested in learning more about and pursuing open- access initiatives. In addition to the Community Track, I participated in two Projects that I am confident will create an impact in how we recognize, value, use, and review preprints.”

Culture & Community

The Culture & Community (C&C) track is the core of the Fellows program. This track includes monthly cohort calls in addition to smaller group sessions. Fellows are provided with essential preprint knowledge and skills required to be preprint champions. This track culminates in Fellows delivering a local talk focused on preprints.

The C&C track runs March – August 2025.

Projects

Part-way through the Fellows program, participants will be presented with the optional projects track. This enables Fellows to collaboratively work on a variety of projects that align with the ASAPbio strategic goals. We aim to offer Fellows a mix of opportunities from creative projects such as videos and podcasts to organising webinars to surveys and preprints.

The Projects track runs May – September 2025.

"The ASAPbio Fellows program has been a wonderful networking experience."

“The program connects people that are passionate about raising awareness for preprints. The program deepened my knowledge on the history of preprints, available preprint servers and ways how preprints may facilitate scientific exchange. I am eager to engage more in preprint advocacy in the future, by applying some of the tips and tricks I learned during the ASAPbio Fellows Program.”
