ASAPbio newsletter vol 14 – New team members, calling all preprint platforms & peer review experiments, preprint licensing

Dear subscribers,

It’s been a while! Here’s what’s been keeping us busy:

New team members

We’re delighted to welcome five new people to the team! From left to right:

  • Phil Bourne (Professor, University of Virginia), Jennifer Lin (Director of Product Management, Crossref), and Kristen Ratan (Co-founder and Executive Director, Collaborative Knowledge Foundation) have joined the Board of Directors.
  • Naomi Penfold is our new Associate Director, taking the lead on preprint-related programming. Read more here.
  • Victoria Yan, a PhD student at TU Dresden, MPI-CBG, joins us as Peer Review Registry Coordinator, an internship position (more on that below).

Calling all peer review experiments & preprint platforms

We’re collecting information about the technological platforms that support preprints as well as experiments in peer review and commentary (both within journals and operated as independent platforms).

If you notice any missing information, please add it to the linked sheets! Your input will help us as we prepare to release resources covering both of these areas.

Preprint licensing

Communities of researchers are become more comfortable with preprinting, but not necessarily with the varied options available for licensing that work. To help increase awareness of how Creative Commons licensing choices affect preprinters, we collaborated with PLOS and Creative Commons to release two resources on preprint licensing last October: an infographic (reproduced here) and a more comprehensive FAQ.

We encourage these resources to be reused and would love to hear your continued feedback on how to improve them!

News from around the web

Since our last newsletter in July, quite a lot has happened in the world of preprinting and publishing peer review:
